We are currently seeking a seasoned accounting professional to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have experience in financial oversight and strong accounting principles, with cannabis industry experience seen as a strong fit. As our Senior Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in establishing robust accounting systems that support our rapid growth and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Role Summary
The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the execution, accuracy, and integrity of the company’s financial operations. This position supports strategic financial planning, ensures compliance with accounting standards, and strengthens internal controls as the organization continues its rapid growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Responsibility: Manage daily accounting functions including Billing, A/R, A/P, General Ledger, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition. Create a template for Bill of Materials for cost accounting and margin visibility at the product level. Ensure timely posting of journal entries and maintain accurate reconciliations of key balance sheet accounts.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance: Assist in preparing and publishing timely monthly financial statements. Support the preparation of regulatory reports and ensure adherence to required reporting cycles. Oversee Municipality and Social Equity Excise Fee (SEEF) tax reporting requirements. Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing financial and tax reporting.
- Internal Controls: Maintain quality control over all financial transactions and reporting outputs. Assist in developing and documenting accounting policies and business processes to enhance internal controls. Ensure accurate accounting for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventory, including appropriate cost and quantity tracking.
- Cross-Departmental Coordination: Partner with cross-functional teams to support company initiatives and ensure financial alignment with organizational goals.
- Performance Monitoring: Continuously evaluate and improve accounting processes to enhance department efficiency and effectiveness.
- Reporting and Communication: Assist with preparation of regular and comprehensive reports on financial status, challenges, and progress to senior management.
- Industry Awareness: Monitor industry trends and regulatory updates to maintain competitive and compliant financial practices.
- Industry Knowledge: Maintain working knowledge of cannabis-specific accounting considerations including tax implications, inventory tracing, and cash flow complexities. Demonstrate solid understanding of manufacturing workflows, standard costing, and bill of materials structures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- Minimum 3+ years of progressive accounting experience; prior senior-level accounting responsibilities preferred; regulated cannabis industry accounting experience is a strong plus.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and general ledger operations.
- Experience preparing financial statements and supporting month-end close cycles.
- Strong QuickBooks skills required; advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills and leadership capability.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly regulated environment.
